Firstly lets take a look at Ringleader of the Tormentors, the soon to be released Morrissey album. I have been a Morrissey fan since I started listening to The Smiths when I was 16, and I was disappointed by You are The Quarry so I am hoping to be impressed by his latest effort.
Obviously I haven't heard the whole album yet but You have Killed me and the couple of leaked tracks I have are pretty decent sounding. I can't say I am entirely convinced by them; 'I will see you in far off places' sounds a little lack lustre in places and is vaguely annoying but 'Dear God, Please Help me' is cracking. A lot has been made of mentions of Morrissey's sex life in this album, and particularly in that song which is slightly disappointing. Obviously the fan girl part of me wants to know everything I can about Morrissey and his life, but any real fan will tell you that the ambiguity and mystery surrounding him is part of what makes him so interesting. I think it would be a great shame for tabloid/NME gossip and lazy journalism to get in the way of his music.
But lets get back to the point; here are two tracks from the new album. I like them and I hope you do too.

My second gift to you is some new Flaming Lips. To my shame I cannot claim to know a lot about this band other than Yoshimi... is a brilliant album and the 3 CD collection of their 80s output scares me.
I have about 5 songs from At War with the Mystics and to be honest its a bit of a mixed bag. Some of them are basically a bit boring (see A Free Radical) whereas others are pretty damn good. But thats just me, maybe I ought to give them another few listens. To be fair to them I don't think any of what I've heard is bad music...its just not all as good as it could be.
See what you think.
